We are approaching the second anniversary of our first Covid-19 Pandemic lock-down.
There has been nothing in our lifetime quite like it. We were “all in it together” and yet, for each of us, it was different.
Things are – for the most part – open again now, and we can go about our business as before. We might have to keep wearing masks on transport and in crowds for a while longer. We are more aware of hand- washing, and wiping down where others may have touched. Some of the most vulnerable – me included – are still awaiting clear direction about vaccines and boosters.
The signage will be long lasting. Pavement signs reminding us to stay two metres apart, sanitiser recommendations, mask reminders on bus shelters. There are still perspex barriers at check-outs. Today I saw a hand wash sign in the rest room reminding us to sing “Happy Birthday” twice as we wash! (Who ever thought that one up must have had a very limited songbook)
It’s easy to recall the big stuff like lock-downs and the death toll. But there’s a lot of little stuff too. I think it should be remembered, as historical factoids of what we’ve been through. So I wrote some of it down and printed it in a booklet.
“Covid Tymes” tells the story of my personal journey through the pandemic, in verse. It reminds us of the clapping, the Zoom meetings, the toilet roll rush and the Eat out to Help out month. It touches on political issues without being political. It’s peppered with Haiku, and has enough funny bits to counteract some of the loneliness we felt. You can buy my Covid Tymes booklet on my website shop here. Just click on the Shop menu.
*”Covid Tymes II and other Viruses and Verses” runs through September 2021 to March 2022, through our Omicron Christmas, the booster roll out and the fuel crisis and some personal poetry written in the aftermath, as we walk towards our New Normal, whatever it is. *”Covid Tymes II and other Viruses and Verses” will be available soon as an on-line pdf.
