Lockdown Sonnet

I thought I had been doing rather well
Working all through April’s lock-down on it
Sestina, Triolet and Villanelle
Canzone and beginning of a Sonnet
Haikus I can do – they’re two a penny
(Although I always err towards a rhyme)
Couplet verse is just as good as any
But counting syllables takes so much time

I had not thought that it would be like this
The endless days without another’s touch
Or sharing wine or small talk -and I miss
The interactions and the hugs so much
And poetry is lost upon me now
The Sonnet’s done. But just don’t ask me how.
