August pauses virus shielding
Of course, it causes nervous feelings
Covid has no thoughts of pausing
Nothing yet to cause its yielding
Doesn’t care the fear it’s causing
The young, the old, the sick and shielding
Nervously the shielders ponder
Go out today? Or stay inside?
How close to stay? How far to wander
To embrace the freedom once denied

Long to see familiar faces
Need to feel that human touch
Visit old familiar places
How can life have changed so much?
Second wave and tiers and bubbles,
November brings in Lockdown Two
Schools report more virus trouble
Should have closed, but who blames who
Soon we’ll have a vaccination
But Christmas doesn’t hold much cheer
We hold our breath in anticipation
Hopeful for a brave New Year
