The candle of life is a-flickering
Its been burning for quite a long while
And sometimes it feels like it might just go out
And this will be over, and I’ll
Have spent all this time just a-waiting
For the right time that never arrives
To do all the things that I’m waiting to do
While we ‘re busily living our lives
The candle of life burned so brightly
And it felt like it shone just for me
I thought it would shine on forever
Not fade when I reached sixty-three!
Now the candle of life is just glowing
Reminding me I must be quick
To do all the things I am wanting to do
‘Fore it comes to the end of its wick!
