Button or pin. attach to your heart
Paper so fragile soon falls apart
Knitted ones, crocheted ones big ones or small
Hang them on lamp posts, nail to the wall
Display them, flowing, like rivers of tears
Replace with a new one November each year
Red for the blood -the lives that were lost
Red for the anger of war at such cost
Red for compassion for those that returned
Red in the hope that lessons were learned
Red for survivors, the ones who had hope
Who returned to find life was just too hard to cope.
Symbol of thanks for all of our veterans
Living or dead so we’ll never forget them
It’s only a badge but it means so much more
Be generous when you remember what poppies are for.
