In the sleepy silence

I think I see you at the door

I beckon you in

But you turn and fade.

I hear a gull cry

I think perhaps I am at the shore again

That we will walk together on the soft sand

Like before

But the tide is too far out

And you are too far away

And I am too far away to see the waves

When you left me there

The ebb and flow of my soul

Was sucked  across sharp shingles

Love sapped away

No soft sand

No comfort here

Did the gull cry?

And if none of this is real

Then, who am I?

I wonder how freedom

Can feel like a cage. How solitude

Turns to loneliness

I tell you I heard a gull cry

But you turn and fade.
